SUMMARY:Water Chemistry Class
DESCRIPTION:Please RSVP if you plan to attend this class. I am capping this class at 12 people due to space.\n\nThis class will have some theory on water chemistry\, but this class will be a mostly hands on experience of mashing two extremes: 1) a pilsner and 2) a porter mash bill\, done two ways with distilled water and adjusted water (with salts) to see first hand the impact water chemistry has on controlling mash pH and its result in efficient extract and clearer wort production. Good for those who are comfortable with all grain brewing and want to “up their game to the next level.” You will get to use an expensive pH meter and an even more expensive digital refractometer to quantify your results.\n\nWe will also discuss how different water salts are best used for certain styles of beer beyond mash pH. DESCRIPTION:Jon Campbell\, our clubs Education Chair\, will be hosting a class all about Diacetyl in your homebrewing. What is Diacetyl? As Jon puts it\, “you have heard of the the dreaded diacetyl (butter and butterscotch)\, right? Did you know that there is a precursor to diacetyl called vicinal diketone that can be coaxed out by heating wort in a simple stove top test? Also\, how do you know your fermentation is in fact complete? A negative VDK test will prove that A) your fermentation is in fact complete\, and B) that diacetyl will NOT show up in your finished product. DESCRIPTION:Come join the HOTV Brewclub for this year’s AHA Big Brew on Saturday May 7th from 9am – 3pm at Mazama Brewing\, located at 33930 SE Eastgate Cir\, Corvallis\, OR 97333. (Map) \nThis year’s brew event will be the launch of the club’s brand new 1 barrel system. A pale ale style beer will be brewed. The first 6 dues paying members will be able to take away 5 gallons of wort. Bring a carboy if interested and pitch your yeast at home. \nThe club will also be hosting a potluck lunch. Club member\, Jon Campbell\, will be bringing his smoker and is smoking chickens. Bring a side to compliment! Let’s leave the homebrew at home and support our gracious hosts\, Mazama Brewing. \nFor those of you brewing your own batches\, make sure to bring your own hoses and extension cords and anything else needed for a fun day of brewing. \nLooking forward to seeing you!
