Entry Limit

There is a limit of four hundred (400) entries for this competition.

Per Entrant Limits

Each entrant is limited to one (1) entry per sub-category .

Payment

After creating your account and adding your entries to the system, you must pay your entry fee(s). Accepted payment methods are:

  • Check, made out to Heart of the Valley Homebrewers
  • Credit/debit card and e-check, via PayPal

Bottle Acceptance Rules

Each entry will consist of three (3) bottles, 12 to 22 ounce capped or corked, that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely.

12oz brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass will be accepted. Swing top bottles will likewise be accepted as well as corked bottles.

Bottles will not be returned to contest entrants.

Completed entry forms and recipe sheets must be submitted with all entries, and can be printed directly from this website. Entry forms should be attached to bottles with a rubber band only; glue and/or tape are unacceptable.

Please fill out the entry forms completely. Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that must be specified. Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges' scoring of your entry.

Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once.

In our commitment to being green, Heart of the Valley Homebrewers strives to recycle 100% of all packing materials for the Oregon Homebrew Festival entries. In order to do this we need your help by following these simple suggestions:

  • Please no Styrofoam "peanuts" or pellets. Not only they are difficult to recycle but more often than not if we receive damaged entries, these were used for packaging. 
  • Limit tape use as it prevents our ability to recycle. More is not better. Bubble wrapped bottles do not need to be fully wrapped in tape.

Packing and Shipping

Carefully pack your entries in a sturdy box. Line the inside of your carton with a plastic trash bag. Partition and pack each bottle with adequate packaging material. Please do not over pack! Write clearly: "Fragile. This Side Up." on the package.

In our commitment to being green, Heart of the Valley Homebrewers strives to recycle 100% of all packing materials for the Oregon Homebrew Festival entries. In order to do this we need your help by following these simple suggestions:

If possible, enclose each of your bottle labels in a small zip-top bag before attaching to their respective bottles. This way it makes it possible for the organizer to identify specifically which entry has broken if there is damage during shipment.

Every reasonable effort will be made to contact entrants whose bottles have broken to make arrangements for sending replacement bottles.

If you live in the United States, please note that it is illegal to ship your entries via the United States Postal Service (USPS). Private shipping companies have the right to refuse your shipment if they are informed that the package contains glass and/or alcoholic beverages. Be aware that entries mailed internationally are often required by customs to have proper documentation. These entries might be opened and/or returned to the shipper by customs’ officials at their discretion. It is solely the entrant’s responsibility to follow all applicable laws and regulations.

Best of Show

This year's Best of Show will be able to serve their award winning entry at Heart of the Valley Homebrewers Septembeerfest!

Awards

The awards ceremony will take place once judging is completed.

Places will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category/table.

The 1st place entry in each category will advance to the Best of Show (BOS) round with a single, overall Best of Show beer selected.

Additional prizes may be awarded to those winners present at the awards ceremony at the discretion of the competition organizers.

Both score sheets and awards will be available for pick up after the ceremony concludes. Awards and score sheets not picked up will be mailed back to participants. Results will be posted to the competition web site after the ceremony concludes.

Oregon Homebrew Festival is a qualifying event for the Masters Championship of Amateur Brewing: MCAB XX - 2017 season.

 

Oregon Homebrew Festival is also a sanctioned competition for the 2017 Oregon State Home Brewer of the Year award.
